African-American students and alumni have always been at the forefront of leadership and service to Old Dominion University. A snapshot of the current student body shows a number of black students serving as the head of several student organizations, representative to the board of trustees and class presidents. Additionally, many of our fellow black alumni serve in various volunteer leadership positions on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, the Board of Visitors and other groups that further the mission of the university.
Over the years, the Black Alumni Chapter has strived to bolster this tradition of service to ODU. The chapter has worked with offices on campus to help recruit and mentor current students. In 2008, our chapter officially endowed the Ronald L. Horne BAC Scholarship providing an annual book stipend for minority students. And we try to continually educate our members about the importance of giving their time and talents in support of our alma mater.
So where do you fit in? In the upcoming months, we have several opportunities for you to join in our efforts including a Fiesta Fundraiser in Alexandria on August 9 and an on-campus reception with current black male students on September 15. We are also looking for chapter volunteers in the Atlanta and Richmond areas. If you live in one of the regions and would like to learn more email us.
If you're looking for other ways to get involved, The Alumni Association can always help you an opportunity that fits your time and interests and we would love to talk with you at any of our upcoming events.
Thank you for helping the BAC establish our commitment to the university and strengthen our connection with you. We look forward to sharing the stories of our impact for years to come! |
